I was born and raised wild on Vancouver Island, on a piece of land called Song Farm. Our house was at the dead end of a long gravel road shaped like a crooked finger. Wildlife and rock and roll music thrived on the farm. Our TV only had two channels, so we rode our bikes and played outside.
At 18 years old, I institutionalized myself at UVic, and emerged with a BFA in 2003, with honours in Visual Arts. After living in Victoria for 10 years, I escaped on the train across Canada landing in Villebois, and then Montreal, but inevitably I heard the call of the Island and my lover, to come back home.
Adam and I moved back to my childhood home to get married and raise our two wild children. After homeschooling for the last few years, they chose to return to public school and so have I.
After attending the DEEP program last year through NIC, I was hungry for more digital knowledge. Being an artist who makes her own art supplies from foraged and found plants and materials, I was surprised how much I also loved learning and creating in the digital space. I signed up for The Web Design Certificate, but if all goes well, I will up my game to the Digital Design Diploma in September 2023. I have to do this part time for now while I am working a few days a week in the office at Creekmore’s Coffee, as well as momming, and making art for my website and a solo exhibition next year.
I have many design dreams! I’d like to rebrand and rebuild my husbands website, as well as update my own websites. I’d like to also be able to use these skills to help others make their branding and logo dreams come true too. I hope to bridge my original art into graphic designs for t-shirt printing, printed, and functional products. My current goals are to get comfortable with the Adobe suite, especially Illustrator, and just get better at understanding basic website building. For the future, I plan to keep this a fun and make it a profitable way to sustain my creative lifestyle.
